Paul Westbury CBE CEng FREng FICE FIStructE, is the Chief Executive Officer of engineering company Buro Happold. == Education == Westbury graduated from Jesus College, Cambridge with a first class degree in engineering science. He then joined Buro Happold in 1991. As a chartered structural engineer, Westbury has succeeded in many notable achievements including contributing to some of Buro Happold’s most eye-catching and innovative building projects. Over the past ten years, he has developed a specialism in sports and entertainment buildings and has led the teams responsible for engineering on a number of award winning projects. Following a number of senior positions within the company, Westbury has taken the role of chief executive officer at Buro Happold during March 2011.〔 Westbury became the company's youngest ever principal in 2000 when he was made a partner and director at the age of 30; following his 1999 Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award for Innovation for his work on the Millennium Dome - the first time a construction related project had won in 30 years. His next move was to establish and lead Buro Happold’s Design and Technology board in 2002, promoting blue sky thinking and innovation which developed a focal point within the firm for ideas development and research. Following on from this he became managing director for Buro Happolds European business in 2008, overseeing all of the region’s offices. Westbury is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Structural Engineers, and the Royal Society for Arts, Manufacture & Commerce . He has written and presented a number of technical papers and has lectured at Cambridge, Yale and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 2008 he was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal for his contribution to British engineering with a commercial benefit. He was named in The Times top 100 scientists list for 2010. In 2012 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Institution of Structural Engineers, their most prestigious award. Westbury is a judge for the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering, a new £1m biennial prize, aimed at promoting the essential contribution of the profession around the globe.
